ARE THERE ANY CHEMICALS USED?

Our Aquaponics systems are 100% chemical free. The principle behind aquaponics insures that we cannot use chemical insecticides, pesticides because they will hurt our fish, which provide nutrients to the plants. Similarly, we cannot use growth hormones on our fish because they adversely affect the plants.

WHAT IS AQUAPONICS?

Aquaponics is a sustainable food production method which combines aquaculture (growing fish) and hydroponics (growing plants in water using synthetically formulated nutrients). Nutrients in an Aquaponic system derive from feeding fish, and their manure, in the presence of bacteria, converts to nitrates and other useful nutrients. The plants intake these nutrients, and clean water is passed back to the Fish Tank. This is a 100% recirculating system where the plants and fish are mutually dependant. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AQUAPONICS AND HYDROPONICS?

Aquaponics and Hydroponics differ mainly in the nutrient source. In an Hydroponic system, chemicals are used to create the nutrients that the plants require, and buildup of these chemicals requires discharge of water from time to time. Aquaponics is a 100% recirculating system, where the nutrients are created naturally from fish excrement and bacteria. Aquaponics is always truly chemical free as in an Aquaponics system, fertilizers/pesticides/insecticides will harm the fish, and any fish growth hormones will harm the plants, guaranteeing there are no chemicals used.
